About Craniosacral Therapy
About Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle manual therapy method, that can be beneficial for people with stress, insomnia, tension headache, migraine, neck pain and also many other psychological and physical pain and tension patterns. Craniosacral therapy can support in recovering from injuries, traumas and surgeries. As a modality it can also be used to become more aware of one's own body and experience in general and one can come to a treatment without any particular issue, just to relax and take some time for oneself.
In craniosacral therapy gentle touch is used in different ways to activate the innate restorative processes of the body. The name craniosacral comes from the latin word for skull (cranium) and tailbone (sacrum). In the treatment the focus is in the structures between these two and through them whole of the body's web of connective tissue can be influenced. The treatment can be used to balance the nervous system as a whole. Each session is build individually, focusing on the client's current situation and experience.
In some treatments dialogue is used during the treatment to clarify and verbalise the experience . The treatment is done with clothes on, usually the client laying on their back or in another position that is most comfortable. Generally people feel relaxed after the session and usually have more clarity about their situation and the issue they came to the treatment with. After the treatment it's good to have some time for oneself to rest and reflect if needed.
For me as a therapist it is important to respect and listen to the client's body, sensations and experience. I do my best to create a relaxing and allowing atmosphere.
My way of working and values
What to expect during a treatment
When you come for a treatment, we first discuss your situation and possible symptoms. After that we find you a comfortable position on the treatment table, usually on your back. The treatment is done with the clothes on. At first I will scan your body with light touch. The treatment itself happens through touch, usually staying longer in which ever part of your body I am focusing on so that your body has time to receive the touch and let go of tension. During the treatment with questions and dialogue we can talk about the effects of the treatment and the origins of the symptoms, however talking is not necessary. After the treatment we take a moment for integration and a chat of the effects and possible questions. This is the usual course of the treatment and something you can expect when you come for your first treatment. We can also rearrange the use of time, the environment and other factors according to your needs.
Diversity people, bodies and backgrounds
I do my best that you would feel respected and seen during the craniosacral therapy session. You are very welcome with your body, gender experience/identity, sexuality, way of relating, worldview, religion and background. I aim to use the words that you yourself use to reflect back your thoughts. I also want to support you in telling me how to create more safety for you. You can tell me about anything that is important to you during the treatment or before by e-mail.
Trauma awareness
I have studied themes around trauma through different courses, lectures and somatic methods. I don't have a degree in psychology, but in my treatment I hold awareness to the possibility of different things coming up from the client's background. I want to create a space where these things can be approached with gentle curiosity and not forcing anything.
Sustainability
I use sheets and towels, so the amount of waste produced is minimal. The techniques inside the mouth are done with disposable gloves on. Paper waste is also very little as I do most of my administrative work digitally.
On accessibility
My treatment space is located in Perhonkatu 1, Kamppi, Helsinki. The space is on the ground floor. There is a ramp before the outside door. The floor of the entrance is higher than the rest of the space. In the treatment I use a table that cannot be adjusted. At the same time there are no other activities in the space, at other times there is psychotherapist working in the space. Contact me if you have questions about accessibility!
